Elisabeth “Liz” Piwowarski Shields
Guardianship Lawyer
Liz serves families seeking guardianship of special needs individuals throughout the state of Texas.
The daughter of two educators, Liz grew up in Liberty, Texas, a small town just outside of Houston. She attended Rice University where she received a degree in women and gender studies and then continued her education at the University of Houston School of Law. While at the University of Houston, in addition to her work at a local law firm, she worked at a day program for families caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease – a disease which she has also experienced in her own family.
After completing her degree, Liz moved to Washington D.C. where she served pro bono clients for a large law firm. During that time, she met her future husband, Kevin Shields. Liz soon left the firm to pursue a position at a new non-profit, working with children. For the next thirteen years, Liz worked as a non-profit attorney, both providing representation as well as serving as a managing attorney and Director. In 2021, Liz made the decision to leave the non-profit world to join her husband, handing guardianship matters for special needs clients.
In addition to providing representation for families seeking guardianship, Liz also provides consulting for non-profits, building off of more than a decade of management experience.
