Kevin Piwowarski Shields

"[Kevin] is a great person with a big heart." -G.R., Greater Houston Client

With Shields Law Firm, Kevin now serves children and families in special needs matters throughout Texas.

As a general education teacher, Kevin fought for increased inclusion time for his kids receiving services; at staff meetings, he called out providers who missed sessions with his kids and was usually the dissenting voice at the IEP table. Kevin started to think that law school might make more sense for him.

Kevin’s first special needs case was during law school, fourteen years ago. During that time, Kevin also taught two high school classes in inner-city DC through a law-students-to-public-schools program piloted at Georgetown. He left law school having given legal voice to over a dozen children, including in juvenile matters, school advocacy, superior court trial work, and a federal grand jury investigation.

After earning his law degree, Kevin gained experience in disability law with one of the country’s largest law firms. There, in the law firm’s pro bono office, he met his future wife. While he has litigated or negotiated hundreds of client-favorable cases and settlements, Kevin’s greatest piece of advocacy persuaded his wife to marry him. (It helped that they were trapped on the top of a mountain.) Three children, a law firm dedicated to special needs and two dogs later, Kevin is honored to serve families like your own.
